Beauty and the Beast the 1991 released Disney classic has been rejuvenated with 3D and more polished animation for the new release. But even then, this movie is sheer as much worth a watch for nostalgia sense as is for the beautiful love story it narrates. Belle (voice of Paige O’Hara) is the most beautiful girl in a provincial town in France. Unfortunately for those who might want her as a wife, including the dim, narcissistic Gaston (Richard White), she’s also one of the village’s oddest denizens. She keeps to herself, helping her inventor father, Maurice (Rex Everhart), with his contraptions, and, in her spare time cheap five fingers shoes , devouring books. She has read just about everything available in the town, and eagerly awaits the arrival of anything new. Every time she ventures outdoors, she draws stares and snickers, but, despite her strangeness, Gaston is determined to marry her.
Then, one fateful day, her father disappears in the forest. Belle goes searching for him and stumbles upon a dark and scary castle. Venturing inside, she discovers a gallery of magical creatures. There’s Lumiere (Jerry Orbach), a candlestick with impeccable manners and an voice that recalls Maurice Chevalier; Cogsworth (David Ogden Stiers), a clock with a high impression of himself and his role in the castle; Mrs. Potts (Angela Lansbury), a grandmotherly tea pot; and many others.
Then there’s the Beast (Robby Benson), the terrifying creature who rules over this domain and holds Maurice captive. Once a handsome prince, he has been cursed to remain a beast until he finds someone who truly loves him in spite of his appearance. Now, he is filled with equal parts hope and dread at Belle’s arrival — hope that she might be “the one” to break the spell, and dread that she might be repulsed by his ugliness. Nevertheless, he agrees to release her father if she accedes to being his permanent guest. She makes the bargain, Maurice is set free, and she is trapped. In time, however, Belle discovers that life in the castle is not as dreadful as it initially seems.
First things first, the film offers some new material. It includes a little extra dialogue (principally Belle reading to the Beast from “Romeo and Juliet”) and one new song, “Human Again”. The real allure of the movie, however, is the amazingly-detailed animation and a half- dozen spectacular song-and-dance numbers. The ballroom sequence, which mixes computer- generated backgrounds with hand-drawn characters, is the best scene in the movie, but it is nearly equaled by a handful of others. And, while the camera in most animated films remains largely static, here it’s frequently on the move, soaring and zooming as it circles characters and imitates tracking shots. Visually, Beauty and the Beast is so carefully-constructed that repeated viewings reveal new details, like the wayward strands of hair that fall across Belle’s forehead.
Combining many diverse elements, Beauty and the Beast attains a nearly-perfect mix of romance, music, invention, and animation. While many animated features claim to appeal equally to adults and children. It’s a family feature that someone over the age of 18 can venture into without an accompanying child. One of the must watch Disney Animated movie Beauty and the Beast is back again in the silver screen in 3d for the viewers to relish the experience even more! Beauty and the beast is the first animated film by Disney to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. The story as we all know is about the handsome prince who is turned in to a beast due to some curse and a lovely beautiful princess, whom the beast imprisons in his castle, to be married to him.
Disney’s Beauty and the beast, got released in the year 1991, and is the 13th film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series and the third animated feature released during a period known as the “Disney Renaissance”, which began in 1989 with Little Mermaid and ended with Tarzan in 1999. Beauty and the beast was adapted to an animation screenplay by Linda Woolverton, directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, and produced by Don Hahn. The music of the film was composed by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The original story of beauty and the beast is based on the fairy tale La Belle et la Bête by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont, who was uncredited in the English version of the film but credited in the French version as writer of the novel.
Upon its release in 1991, Beauty and the Beast was a significant commercial and critical success, earning $403 million in box office earnings throughout the world, in addition to three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture, Musical or Comedy, and two Academy Awards. A bookish young woman, Paige O’Hara as Belle, falls in love with the Beast, who imprisons her and finds the kind-hearted human inside him. In their effort to enhance the character from the original story, the filmmakers felt that Belle should be “unaware” of her own beauty and made her “a little eccentric”. Robby Benson as The Beast, is a cold-hearted prince transformed into a beast as punishment for his selfishness, but later warms, with the help of Belle, (After the Kiss of Love) and ends up being transformed back into a handsome prince as a reward. The animated version is a classic and a must watch for the kids and as its a fairy tale, one cannot expect much but to admire the animation, that too when it sin 3d form!

In Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides Jack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley do not return but frankly are also not missed as this go around Penelope Cruz joins the cast as Jack Sparrow’s old flame and Blackbeard’s daughter and Ian McShane is in as Blackbeard. I am a huge fan of Penelope Cruz not only is she incredibly talented but she is drop dead gorgeous and has a sultry accent to boot. She proves that the current trend of airheads with ‘nice tits and great teeth’ ( can you name the director who said that recently? ) is unnecessary. You can still find a gorgeous actress whether they are under 30 or not that can act and do much more then be a hood ornament for your movie. If there is one thing that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 has brought its some strong new characters and it’s true to form great acting. The casting is spot on the acting is well done and the story, its not horrible is all I can fairly give it for a movie that was clearly conceived to bleed the stone dry.
The movie starts out somewhat blas’ and frankly some of the action scenes looked ripped right out of the first movie including an early less then climatic sword fight scene. I am a huge fan of the first two Pirates of the Caribbean films and found the third film to be luke warm. Unfortunately although it’s not a bad movie Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is also pretty luke warm to me. It is neither unique or needed and comes off as a last stab attempt for Disney to milk more money from a movie franchise based on a children’s ride in an amusement park. Even with the addition of Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz and some new elements I found alot of the nostalgia factor gone and at times was looking at my watch.
The first half of the film is slow and at times boring but it does compensate with some great momentum towards the end and new elements including zombies, the vicious Blackbeard, mermaids and the incredibly hot and talented Penelope Cruz’ did I mention her yet? The onscreen dynamic between Ian Mcshane, Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp is definitely a highlight as is the twists in the end as the pirates and privateers finally find the fountain of youth. Unfortunately it cannot completely overcome the under thought action sequences and the many moments where I found it hard to connect with the scenes and the characters.
Overall Pirates of the Caribbean is on ok film but not a great film that is to disturbing for small children ( killer mermaids, zombies and lots of decapitated pirates ) and it’s a bit low rent for more mature film goers . I give the movie a 6.5 out of 10. But more importantly what did you think of it?

It is a shame the trailer gives away the hook for Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil. I was lucky enough to see this film unfettered by expectations, and thoroughly enjoyed watching reveal after reveal. It reminded me a little bit of an excellent short film I saw a couple of years back, Auburn Hills Breakdown (read our review here), in that (spoiler…) a seemingly insane and murderous backwoods family are actually the “normal” ones in a scary scenario. So, that’s the twist that’s revealed everywhere from YouTube to Timbuktu. But even if you know what’s going to happen, Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil is still pure fun.
The comedy of errors begins when harmless hayseed Dale (Tyler Labine) takes a shine to a gorgeous young camper, and his best bud Tucker (Alan Tudyk) talks him into going up and talking to her. Only problem is, Dale in his nervousness adopts a maniacal giggle and forgets that he just happens to be holding a razor-sharp scythe. (All of this, of course, happens at a lonely country gas station, with the rednecks’ rusty pickup truck parked nearby.) Allison (Katrina Bowden) and her friends are quickly convinced that they’re being stalked as prey… they’re not, but they do begin to die, one by one, in various and grisly ways.
Meanwhile, Tucker and Dale are convinced that these crazy kids have come to the woods to off themselves in some sort of a suicide pact. All they want is to be left in peace in their summer vacation home (i.e., rundown cabin in the sticks), but that is not to be as the college students fall into a wood-chipper, get impaled on handy branches, shoot, and otherwise accidentally maim or kill themselves.
The set-up and story is cute and fun (while also managing to be awfully gory and suspenseful at the same time), but it’s the leads who really make Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil resonate in the memory. Bowden is genuinely likeable even in her beauty and perfection, while Labine and Tudyk display an easy camaraderie which belies the fact they were not friends for years and years prior to being cast.Add technical marvel to the heart of the tale — Eli Craig’s deft direction and DP David Geddes’ effortless-looking yet admirably complex shots — and you have a rare treat: a horror/comedy with heart and style. Tucker & Dale vs Evil is a frisky comic spin on the “backwoods” horror subgenre, that home to inbred, psychotic, redneck, banjo-playing hillbilly rapists who want nothing more than to skin you and dress you up as their granny.

Here, the titular characters, played by Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, are perfectly friendly and a little slow: they wouldn’t hurt a fly. The parade of brash hotties on an ill-judged camping holiday suspect them of being everything they’re not and run around in a dim frenzy being accidentally impaled.
The movie amounts to one joke recycled with grisly variations, as when one panicked idiot charges headfirst into a woodchipper. It’s a good joke, but one that inevitably flags over 90 minutes.
